Tropical Cyclone Veronica

At 11pm WST, Tropical Cyclone Veronica (category 1) was estimated to be 40
kilometres north northwest of Karratha and is slow moving. Heavy rain over the
central Pilbara will ease during Tuesday as Veronica drops below cyclone strength.

GALES with gusts to 100 kilometres per hour are occurring in the Dampier and
Karratha area. Gales could extend west to Cape Preston and Mardie for a period
early Tuesday morning. Winds over all parts of the warning area are likely to ease
below gales early Tuesday morning.

TIDES between Roebourne and Mardie may rise above the normal high tide mark
with rough seas and possible minor flooding of low-lying coastal areas as Veronica
moves west early Tuesday.

MAJOR FLOODING is likely over the central Pilbara coast and adjacent inland
areas, easing gradually during Tuesday - over 50mm of rain has been reported at
Port Hedland in the past two hours.
