Severe Weather Warning
for Damaging Winds

for Upper Derwent Valley, South East, East Coast, North West Coast, Central Plateau, Midlands and parts of Western and Central North Forecast Districts.

Weather Situation
West to southwesterly winds across Tasmania during Monday as a deep low pressure system passes to the south of the state and a cold front crosses Monday afternoon.
DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas:
Western, Upper Derwent Valley, South East, East Coast, North West Coast, Central North, Central Plateau and Midlands
DAMAGING WEST TO SOUTHWESTERLY WINDS, averaging 50 to 60 km/h with peak gusts 90 to 100 km/h are possible over the southeast and central areas of Tasmania during the afternoon, the east coast and northwest during the evening. Wind gusts in excess of 100 km/h are possible over elevated and exposed coastal areas.
Winds are likely to continue to be fresh and gusty across the state well into the evening, easing early Tuesday morning.
Locations which may be affected include Devonport, Burnie, Swansea, New Norfolk, Hobart and Dover.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Supervise children closely.
* Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings.
* Manage pets and livestock.
* Secure outdoor items including furniture and play equipment.
* Be prepared in case of power outages and report any outages to TasNetworks on 132 004.
* Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving.
* Listen to the ABC radio or check for further advice.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132500.

The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 11:00 pm AEDT Sunday.
